The EU EOM led a roundtable with stakeholders to explore ways to implement its recommendations to improve future electoral processes in Lebanon
As last step of its return visit to Lebanon, this morning the European Union Election Observation Mission (EU EOM) together with the EU Delegation led a roundtable with different stakeholders, such as Lebanese authorities, political parties’ representatives, civil society and international organisations, and media associations. The aim was to explore possible ways to implement the mission’s recommendations to improve future electoral processes in the country.
As part of its methodology, in the last days a representation of the EU EOM returned to Beirut. At a press conference last Monday, the Chief Observer György Hölvényi, publicly presented the mission’s final report which, in addition to a detailed analysis of the electoral process, includes 23 recommendations.
Following this event, the Chief Observer and the mission’s members met on bilateral basis a number of interlocutors, ranging from the Lebanese high authorities, political parties of the whole spectrum, civil society representatives to present them the Final report.
“In the course of today’s roundtable, the interlocutors invited by the EU EOM discussed the recommendations, trying to assess to which extent and how to implement those recommendations in the near future”, said Jarek Domański, the deputy chief observer of the mission.
Mr Domański emphasised that: “the recommendations are the most important contribution that the mission offers to the country, the starting point of possible future electoral reforms”.
“The European Union stands ready to support Lebanon in order to implement the recommendations and in order to make future electoral processes strengthened and improved”, he concluded.
بعثة الإتحاد الأوروبي لمراقبة الإنتخابات أقامت نقاش حول طاولة مستديرة لاستكشاف سبل تطبيق توصياتها لتحسين العملية الإنتخابيّة في المستقبل في لبنان
كخطوة أخيرة لزيارتهم الثانية والأخيرة الى لبنان، أقامت بعثة الإتحاد الأوروبي لمراقبة الإنتخابات مع يعثة الإتحاد الأوروبي في لبنان هذا الصباح طاولة مستديرة مع مختلف المحاورين من السلطات اللبنانية إلى ممثلين من الأحزاب السياسيّة، المجتمع المدني، المنظمات الدولية ووسائل الإعلام. والهدف يكمن في اكتشاف الطرق الممكنة لتطبيق توصيات البعثة لتحسين العمليّة الإنتخابيّة في البلاد.
كجزء من منهجيّتها، عاد ممثلو بعثة الاتحاد الأوروبي لمراقبة الإنتخابات إلى بيروت في الأيام الأخيرة. وفي مؤتمر صحافي الإثنين الماضي، رئيس البعثة جورج هولفيني، قدّم للعلن التقرير النهائي للبعثة، إضافة إلى تحليل مفصّل للعملية الانتخابية، يشمل 23 توصية.
وبعد المؤتمر الصحفي، دارت اجتماعات ثنائيّة بين رئيس البعثة وأعضائها مع مختلف المحاورين، من السّلطات اللّبنانيّة العليا إلى الأحزاب السّياسيّة بكامل أطيافها، ممثلو المجتمع المدني لتقديم التقرير النهائي لهم.
وقال نائب رئيس البعثة ياريك دوماينسكي: “خلال النقاش اليوم حول الطاولة المستديرة، ناقش المحاورون المدعوون من بعثة الإتحاد الأوروبي لمراقبة الإنتخابات التوصيات، لمحاولة تقييم الى اي مدى وكيفية تطبيق هذه التوصيات في المستقبل القريب”.
وشدّد دوماينسكي على أن “هذه التوصيات هي أهمّ مساهمة تقدّمها البعثة للبلد، ونقطة الإنطلاق للإصلاحات الانتخابية المحتملة في المستقبل”.
وختم دوماينسكي قائلًا: “الإتحاد الأوروبي على أتمّ الإستعداد لدعم لبنان من أجل تنفيذ التوصيات و من أجل تعزيز وتحسين العمليّات الانتخابيّة في المستقبل.”
